Despite the success of 2007's Enchanted, it has taken a long time for Disney to achieve much movement on a follow-up. The last solid piece of news was the arrival of writers J. David Stern and David N. Weiss. We don't know if they're still aboard, but Adam Shankman is making a deal to direct.

The first Enchanted blended fairytale with Noo Yoik reality, and saw Amy Adams as Giselle, an animated princess exiled to our world by an evil sorceress played by Susan Sarandon. Landing in New York, she confronted the harsh reality of a land seemingly without true love or happy ever afters by singing a lot and generally trying to jolly everyone (including Patrick Dempsey) into sharing her point of view.

Now it appears we'll see Disenchanted, set 10 years later as Giselle (Adams should be back in the role) starts to question her happily ever after and accidentally setting off events that affect everyone in the real world and the animated realm of Andalasia.

Disney wants this one ready to shoot by early next year, and Shankman, with his experience on live-action comedies and musicals, feels like a good fit.
