We appear to be segueing into a new era of Sandler Seriousness. All right, so Adam Sandler isn’t leaving his more usual comedy fare behind – he’s at work on his latest rom-com, The Familymoon, after all – but he’s in talks for a second, more serious film this month. This time, it’s Win Win director Tom McCarthy’s latest, **The Cobbler{
We can already hear the gags about Sandler and a load of old cobblers, but stick with us on this one. McCarthy, who had been planning to make a drama called Spotlight, which followed reporters uncovering abuse in the Catholic Church, is now setting up this one as he waits for Spotlight to find a studio home and lock down lead actors.
McCarthy has most details about the new film under wraps, but according to the Hollywood Reporter it follows a shoe repair expert who has a metaphysical ability to step into the lives of the people whose footwear he works on. In Sandler’s hands alone, it could be a Click-style high concept comedy, but McCarthy has more dramatic ideas in mind.
This will apparently squeeze on to the actor’s To Do List ahead of Jason Reitman’s latest, **Men, Women & Children, which Sandler is also set to star in. Could we see him switch to taking more drama than comedy one day? That still remains to be seen.
