In the not-so-distant future (or, 29 August), James Gray’s long-awaited sci-fi drama Ad Astra will finally touch down for its global premiere at the Venice Film Festival – giving the world its first look at the filmmaker’s hugely anticipated follow-up to The Lost City Of Z. This one swaps Amazonian exploration for intergalactic existentialism, with Brad Pitt’s astronaut Roy McBride searching for his missing father (played by Tommy Lee Jones) in the far reaches of the solar system.

Empire has an exclusive new video teaser for the film with this Venice Film Festival Special Look – offering a tantalising new glimpse of the film’s beautiful visuals, compelling tone, and starry performances.

Expect the first reactions and reviews of the film to emerge after the Venice premiere – and catch the film in UK cinemas on 18 September.
