It has been 26 years since Jim Carrey was last seen on the big screen as Ace Ventura, the pet detective who was part of his big breakout. You might have thought that it was a little too late for a third movie in the series, but if Coming 2 America has taught us anything it's that it's just not true. Which goes some way to explain why production company Morgan Creek has plans for a new film.
Speaking to sales reps Park Circus the Creek team revealed more about their plans, which does include Carrey. "We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise - it's noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamoring for a third installment… During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic The Hedgehog writers."
Sonic, of course, saw Carrey back in truly manic form as the villain, Dr. Robotnik, with a sequel now in production. And with the movie's writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller aboard, that could point to a return for the star, though that wasn't confirmed by the Creek interview. And let's not forget that a third Ace film did appear, albeit 2009's Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr.. Wait... we actually all did forget that, and probably for good reason.
