We weren’t exactly the biggest fans of Garry Marshall’s Valentine’s Day, his big ensemble cast-starring batch of romantic comedy drama segments that arrived this year. But it was successful enough that New Line wants to expand the idea to other holidays, with** New Year’s Eve** next on the target list and Abigail Breslin the second confirmed cast member to jump aboard.
She’s following Glee’s Lea Michele, who is already aboard for a film set in New York that finds various characters trying to muddle their way through romance on the titular day of the year. And here you were thinking it was a post-apocalyptic drama about mutant cyborg rats...
While he hasn’t definitely signed on the dotted to direct, Marshall is likely to be back for the sequel, which also reunites the same producers and, assuming she also returns, writer Katherine Fugate.
But even though none of the creative team is fully locked in, New Line is already setting the date for the thing to come out, pencilling in December 9, 2011.
Now all anyone involved with the film has to realise is they’re competing with the likes of When Harry Met Sally in terms of classic New Year’s-set movies... No pressure, then! Oh, and we can't wait for 2018's Secretary's Day.
