When we first read that Abbie Cornish was in talks to join the Robocop reboot, we had visions of her donning body armour and a police helmet to play Alex Murphy’s partner, Anne Lewis. But it seems that the new film will be pushing the family angle harder, as she’s circling the role of Murphy’s wife.
Joel Kinnaman is playing the murdered cop resurrected as the future of law enforcement, and director Joel Padilha has also scored the services of Gary Oldman (as a scientist who works on Robo), with Samuel L Jackson in talks to be a charismatic TV mogul.
Cornish circling the wife role makes us think that Murphy’s wife will be a more central figure in the new movie than in Paul Verhoeven’s original, where she only appeared briefly in flashbacks.
Robocop, with a script by James Vanderbilt, Nick Schenk and Joshua Zetumer, is scheduled to kick off shooting this August in Toronto and will be out on August 9, 2013.
Cornish last appeared in** W.E.** and will next be seen in both Whisperings And Lies and Seven Psychopaths.
