She played The Dag in Mad Max: Fury Road, so Abbey Lee should be used to strange landscapes and stranger people. That will surely stand her in good stead to join Idris Elbaand Matthew McConaughey in The Dark Tower.

According to Deadline's report – which mentions that she hasn't solidly locked down the part yet, but is negotiating – Lee is playing a character named Tirana, which has been causing consternation among readers of the books, since she's a relatively minor villain in one of Stephen King's later tomes. So this could well be a cover name to occlude who Lee is really playing in the film until a later date, or there will be some big changes between the movie and the books, and this isn't as much of a lead role as the early reports suggest. Not unusual, but we'll have to wait and see how it shakes out.

The film, which represents the first step in the plan to bring the story to cinemas (plus a companion TV series which is still in development), would follow Deschain (Elba) and protégé Jake Chambers as they quest to locate the titular tower, a central point in the universe, before dark forces (including McConaughey's main villain) invade and destroy it, wiping out reality. Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkneroriginally adapted the script from King’s first book in the series, The Gunslinger, and director Nikolaj Arcel has been working with fellow Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen on his own draft.

Lee, meanwhile, will next be seen in Gods Of Egypt and Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon.
