Aaron Sorkin Talks Steve Jobs film

Though he’s also been busy overseeing TV series The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin has spent a lot of time recently labouring over the Steve Jobs biopic he’s writing for Sony. Actually, biopic isn’t quite the word, as he intends to eschew the usual structure for something different. And though he won’t aim to encompass all of the Apple CEO’s life, he’s got an idea to cover a broad sweep of it.

Speaking at the Daily Beast’s Hero conference, where his remarks were picked up by Business Insider, Sorkin talked up his idea. He’s structuring the film around three 30-minute scenes set behind the scenes before three of Apple’s biggest product launches – the Mac, NeXT and the iPod.

And as he wants the scenes to play out in real time, it appears he’s written something that really is just three big scenes. It’s definitely an interesting approach and would be able to drop in on the tech visionary during three very different points in his life – launching himself on the world with the Mac, attempting to pick up the pieces after being forced out of the company, and launching what would become a revolutionary piece of kit.

How much of the idea remains once the film has been handed to a director to shoot is still up in the air, but with his reputation and an Oscar on his mantelpiece, Sorkin has certainly earned some trust.
