With its ultra-high tension, emotional storytelling, and smart filmmaking, A Quiet Place was one of the best films of 2018 – a gripping original horror-thriller that stood perfectly alone. For a film that took place in near total silence, with extended sequences in sign language and alien baddies that attack at the slightest noise, it was ironically worth shouting about. In most cases, the arrival of a sequel would be worrying – but with writer-director John Krasinksi back on board, and Emily Blunt and co returning in the cast, there’s a chance this sequel could really deliver in expanding the story without diluting what made the original so special. And now after taking some time to get the project going, Krasinki just confirmed that shooting has begun on A Quiet Place: Part II – sharing a photo on Twitter of the clapperboard.
The slate confirms that Polly Morgan is on board as cinematographer, having previously worked on X-Men series Legion, as well as its showrunner Noah Hawley’s upcoming space drama Lucy In The Sky.
Elsewhere, information on the follow-up remains scarce – fittingly, just the odd whisper here and there, presumably to avoid attacks from murderous space-beasts. It’s previously been reported that the likes of Brian Tyree Henry and Cillian Murphy have joined the cast for this one, and that the plot might reveal a little more about the origins of the marauding audio-sensitive aliens. A Quiet Place: Part II has a tentative release date of 21 March 2020 – so expect to find out much more in the coming months, as the film approaches its spring release.
