Seemingly wandering for months in a mire of negative buzz, troubled Keanu Reeves samurai adventure 47 Ronin is finally headed to screens later this year. After skipping the San Diego Comic-Con, the film has finally decided to kick off its promotional campaign properly with four character posters.

Reeves stars as Kai, a half-Japanese/half-British warrior who joins a group of outcast samurai on a mission to seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master.

While the basic story itself is a true tale from Japan’s history, this latest cinematic take will embellish the telling with fantastical elements such as magic and witches, one played by Pacific Rim’s Rinko Kikuchi.

47 Ronin has had a tough old time of it since kicking off shooting back in 2011. Ad veteran Carl Rinsch decided to make the movie as his first feature film, but clashes with executives over the footage he delivered have seen the pic subjected to re-edits and delays.

These posters are rather stylish, however, and give us some hope that the final product will be decent despite the struggles. Now we really need to see a trailer, which may not be too far behind. 47 Ronin is scheduled to arrive here on December 26.
