The idea of a 24 film has been on and off again more times than Jack Bauer’s said “damnit!” And that’s a lot of times. But while the chatter died down once recent miniseries Live Another Day surfaced, there is now refreshed talk, in the wake of Bauer’s return to duty, about the big screen version.
According to TV Line, there are new discussions going on inside Imagine Entertainment, based off a brand new pitch, which is being kept strictly secret. Apparently it’s only been talked up within the Imagine halls, where boss Brian Grazer appears particularly happy with the idea, but it has yet to even cross a desk at 20th Century Fox, which would produce and distribute any film.
Let’s not forget that we’ve been here before multiple times before, with Kiefer Sutherland and co. regularly fanning or dousing rumours that a movie is imminent and at least one script draft, by Billy Ray, tossed out in the midst of a particularly difficult development spasm.
There is also the potential complication of Fox’s TV arm looking to work on another miniseries following the success of Live Another Day, though there’s nothing concrete on that front either. For now, we’re just going to have to be patient and see whether the Bauer Power Hour stalks across small screens again or finally hits the big one. 24 fans, meanwhile, can slake their thirst via our pod-chat with producer/director Jon Cassar.
