Sunday night saw the US TV community handing out various trophies with the 86th annual Emmy Awards. And there were some expected victories – take a bow, Game Of Thrones – and some surprises, including Tatiana Maslany finally winning an Emmy for her multi-character work on Orphan Black.
On the comedy front, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has become a powerhouse in her role as Selina Meyer on Veep, scoring her fifth gong in a row. It was also good to see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler pick up a joint award for hosting Saturday Night Live and for the series' Kate McKinnon to go home with an award. Jeffrey Tambor's performance on Amazon's Transparent continues to please Emmy voters, as he nabbed his second win in a row.
Limited – or as we usually call them, mini-series (which also refers to some of the anthology series such as American Horror Story) – have infiltrated the awards in a big way, with series such as The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story winning several awards.
Elsewhere, Rami Malek won Lead Actor, Drama for Mr. Robot (it'll be interesting to see if the show's more divisive second season appears on nominating lists next year), while Ben Mendelsohn won a Supporting Actor, Drama award for Bloodline, which is better news than the series has had of late.
On the UK front, Sherlock's The Abominable Bride won TV Movie, and Downton Abbey's Maggie Smith picked up her third win. The main show and acting categories can be found below. For all the results, take a look at the Television Academy's own site.
