The fantastic Mr Foxx, or Jamie as we like to call him, has been on fire this year. Not literally, or he wouldn't be having a good year at all, but figuratively speaking. And in the latest of many plaudits for Foxx's acting prowess, the Screen Actors' Guild has nominated him for no less than three awards. The Best Actor list was always going to include him for his astonishing portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray, but Foxx has also landed a Best Supporting Actor nod for his turn in Collateral and a third for his part in TV's Redemption. He also shares a second nomination for Ray, in the outstanding performance by a cast category. Joining Foxx in the Leading Actor circle are the ever-excellent Johnny Depp for Finding Neverland, Don Cheadle for his courageous stand in Hotel Rwanda, Leonardo Dicaprio for Martin Scorsese's The Aviator and the always excellent Paul Giamatti for Sideways, which collected four nominations in all. Foxx's peers in the Best Supporting Actor steeplechase include Giamatti's co-star Thomas Haden Church, who vies with Morgan Freeman, James Garner and the 12-year-old Freddie Highmore - surely a shoo-in for playing moody moppet Peter Llewellyn-Davies in Finding Neverland and soon to be seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Hilary Swank's first pass at awards glory since Boys Don't Cry begins here with a nod for another tough-girl role in Million Dollar Baby in the Best Actress stakes, accompanied by Annette Bening's drama queen in Being Julia, Imelda Staunton's backstreet abortionist in Vera Drake and Kate Winslet for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
