You likely saw the recent featurette about how Sam Mendes has challenged himself to make his latest, war film 1917 as though the narrative takes place in one shot. The latest trailer for it has arrived.
Co-written by Mendes and Penny Dreadful's Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the film is set at the height of the First World War. Two young British soldiers, Schofield (George MacKay) and Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers— Blake’s own brother among them.
Assembling a cast that also includes Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott and Daniel Mays, 1917 finds Mendes digging into trench warfare the terrible toll taken by conflict. It'll march into UK cinemas on 10 January next year.
