Superman may be verboten on television due to his big screen appearances - the exception being some obscured imagery on Supergirl – but apparently his long lost relatives are fair game. Syfy has given the green light for a pilot to be produced based on David S. Goyer's script for Krypton.
The network cryptically describes the premise as follows: "Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man Of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known."
It would seem that the show will take a sci-fi bent along the lines of the early sequences of Man Of Steel that starred Russell Crowe as Jor-El. Goyer serves as executive producer with Sleepy Hollow's Damian Kindler serving as executive producer and showrunner. Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) will direct the pilot. Currently Goyer and Kindler are rewriting the original script.
