It's taken a few years, but the success of 2008's Abba-fuelled Mamma Mia! musical means a sequel was pretty much inevitable. Now Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is almost upon us, with Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski and practically everyone else returning from last time. Plus Cher! Here's the first trailer, and scroll down for the poster.

Ol Parker has written and directed what is reportedly a sequel and prequel to the original, featuring new cast members playing younger versions of the originals (Baby Driver's Lily James is the youthful analogue of Streep's character, for example).

Like the original, which adapted the stage hit for its own $609 million worldwide success at the box office (and more on the home entertainment level), the new one will again use Abba's music (both classic cuts and tracks that didn't find their way into the first film), and features the participation of the original stage musical's creator Judy Craymer.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is out in the appropriately summery slot of July 27, 2018.
