There have thus far been two attempts to launch a cinematic franchise based on IO Interactive's bestselling Hitman games; neither really caught on with audiences. And, as has happened with a few other titles, the idea is now taking aim a TV series, with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad on to shape the pilot for US streaming service Hulu.

Veteran Hitman producers Adrian Askarieh and Chuck Gordon are shepherding this one to its new venue, with the hopes that the small screen is the place for baldy assassin Agent 47, his lethal ways and his mysterious backstory. The aim is to stick largely with the game's established mythology, and Kolstad's action credits should come in handy to give this the proper kick-off. Can Hitman finally, properly succeed on TV? We'll find out as the show develops, but Hulu is aiming to make this one of its flagship shows. There are no details yet of when it might be available to UK audiences.

Kolstad's work on Wick continues – the third film, which once again has Chad Stahelski directing, is set for 2019.
