One of 2017's most enjoyable surprises was the low-key teen slasher movie Happy Death Day. Its high concept saw Jessica Rothe trapped in a Groundhog Day loop ending each time in her death until she managed to break the cycle and solve the mystery of her repeated assailant. And now it's happening all over again. Here's the second trailer for 2019's amusingly monikered sequel Happy Death Day 2U.
Writer/director Christopher Landon is back behind the camera for this new Blumhouse film, which appears to be taking something of a Back To The Future Part II approach to the story, dipping in and out of the original. We once again follow college student Tree Gelbman (Rothe), who thought she had figured a time loop that was triggered when she was murdered on her birthday.
Now, though, it might all be happening again – with a few key changes, including others she knows being trapped and hunted alongside her – and despite feeling supremely pissed off that she has to deal with it, she throws herself into the task (literally, in some cases).
Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine and Phi Vu are all back and the movie is taking aim at Valentine's weekend audiences with a 15 February release.
