In keeping with recent tradition, the majority of the biggest trailers that audiences thought might debut during this year's Super Bowl popped up beforehand. Some even days before, such as the latest trailer forJurassic World: Dominion.
But the big game day still some premieres, and we're here to offer a handy round-up of the biggest film promos and film-related ads all in one place. Let's take a look, shall we...
Trailers
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
As Owen Wilson might say, "Wow". Marvel (and director Sam Raimi) certainly didn't hold back with this one. Multiverse? Check. Madness? Double, triple check.
Nodding towards some of the MCU (and beyond) cameos we can expect, this also had all of our Doctor Strange veterans (including Rachel McAdams Dr. Christine Palmer, who hopefully gets more to do this time), plus Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff and new hero America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez.
Here's our story on it in more detail, and you can see it below.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power
Late in the game, Amazon brought out its own big gun – not that there are guns on Middle-earth.
Read more about the trailer for the show here, which heads back in Tolkien time to before the Fellowship, The Hobbit and even the Ring, to bring us an all-new (old) adventure. It's the younger days of long-lived characters such as Galadriel (played here by Morfydd Clark) and the legendary landscape is under threat from dark forces. As per, then. Watch the teaser below.
Nope
Jordan Peele's new horror was the most anticipated trailer of the day and it ended up dropping overnight before the game ever started. You can find more on it here and watch the trailer below.
Ambulance
Michael Bay's back on his action beat, this time with Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul Mateen II as brothers whose heist goes wrong and they have to improvise - taking an ambulance and its crew hostage. This short clip really just recycles what we've seen from the trailers, tied to the Super Bowl's LA location this year.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Paramount debuted a TV spot for the speedy critter's sequel days before the Super Bowl, and given that the new movie brings in one of the console title's favourite characters in Tails, of course there was a coin-flipping joke to kick things off. Yet mostly this was just a short new trailer featuring more from the Idris Elba-voiced knuckles (who is a big threat this time) and Jim Carrey's returning villain, Dr. Robotnik.
The Lost City
We've already had one trailer for the Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum/Daniel Radcliffe-starring comedy adventure that heavily channels the likes of Romancing The Stone. This is really just a cut down version of that, albeit with a little extra leech action and one or two different gags.
Moon Knight
The new Multiverse Of Madness trailer might be consuming a lot of the oxygen, but there was still room for one of the incoming Marvel characters (and Empire's next cover feature) to remind us that he's on the way.
Yes, Oscar Isaac's confused museum worker, who discover he shares his mind with a vigilante known as Moon Knight (AKA Mark Spector) will be hitting Disney+ on 30 March. He can use that time to figure out the difference between his waking life and... look, we've done that accent joke a lot, okay?
Adverts
It's never just movies (and, increasingly, TV shows) that get pushed. Companies love to get actors to front their commercials, whether it's movie spoofs or just silly stuff. Watch a selection below...
Austin Powers For GM
More specifically, Dr. Evil for GM as Mike Myers brought his world-conquering character back to sling electric cars. Seth Green, Rob Lowe and Mindy Sterling all also returned, as Scott Evil, Number Two and Frau Farbissina in a spot that mostly made us wish they were making a proper fourth film (as dangerous a proposition as that might be).
The Cable Guy For Verizon
The Cable Guy might have flopped at the box office back in 1996, but there's still plenty of affection for Jim Carrey's obsessive tech installer. That said, does anyone really trust that weirdo? Clearly not, but he's also confused by how TV tech has moved on.
Arnold Schwarzenegger And Salma Hayek For BMW
When Schwarzenegger tweeted a couple of weeks ago about playing Zeus, everyone pretty much figured out it was going to be for a Super Bowl ad. And so it is, with Salma Hayek co-starring in a spot about a frustrated Zeus trying to retire and finding everyone just wants to use his electrical powers.
Zendaya For Squarespace
The website building and hosting company often likes to employ big names and this year's spot is no different. But there's talent behind the camera too – this spot (which also features André 3000), was directed by one Edgar Wright.
Brie Larson, Eugene Levy, Dave Bautista And Danai Gurira For Nissan
Larson has been the face of Stateside ads for Nissan for a while now, but this new one goes typically big for the Bowl, roping in Levy plus Larson's fellow Marvel actors Gurira and Bautista for an action-packed spot that also references Schitt's Creek via Levy's sitcom co-star Catherine O'Hara.
Chloe Zhao For Budweiser
The Oscar-winning director of Nomadland, who had Marvel's Eternals out last year, brings her trademark warm, natural visual style to this ad, featuring perennial Super Bowl icons the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. Or horse, in this case.
Seth Rogen And Paul Rudd For Lay's Crisps
The pals reminisce about some of the crazier things that have happened to them through their lives (even if they can't quite remember their shared movies) in a new spot for the crisp company.
