The latest animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios is a Colombia-set family fantasy with songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda. The magical Madrigal family live in an enchanted house, which grants them each a special ability – except Mirabel, who begins seeing premonitions that their magic may be fading. Her journey to find out why takes her into the hidden secrets of her family, and of their living, breathing home. Beautiful, breathtaking, and full of bangers.

From comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short comes a comedy-drama whodunnit, packed with humour, and with a mystery that’ll really get its hooks into you. The pair play older residents of luxury New York apartment building The Arconia, who team up with a fellow tenant (played by Selena Gomez) to solve the mysterious death of a neighbour in the block – interrogating the other inhabitants and turning the whole thing into a true-crime podcast. If you loved Knives Out, this one’s for you.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao brings a whole new vision to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eternals is a thought-provoking fantasy set over 7000 years, in which ten cosmic beings are sent to Earth to fight the monstrous Deviants, and end up influencing the course of human history. It has all the super-powered action you expect from Marvel – but with a distinct identity all its own.

Before she made Eternals, Zhao swept awards season with Nomadland – a beautiful, meditative drama about Fern (Frances McDormand), who loses everything in America’s financial crash and takes on a nomadic lifestyle. Shot in Zhao’s quasi-documentary style – filmed on location, with a cast of mostly non-actors and real-life nomads – it’s full of breath-taking natural landscapes and emotional human stories.
