The Everything Everywhere All At Once frontwoman on embracing her wildest role yet
What was your first impression of the script?
I think the one word that jumps to mind is “intrigued”. I had never read anything so crazy. It’s like: there are some two evil geniuses at work here. They had me going, “Do I understand? Maybe I don’t really understand. But you know what? They have intrigued me. And I love a challenge.” What we constantly look for is roles that you’ve never done before, that keep you on your toes. The script was sent to me and then I went to watch the Daniels’ movie, //Swiss Army Man//. Intrigued would be theword! I was so mesmerised by it. So I felt very compelled to meet these Daniels. We took a meeting maybe a year and a half, two years before we actually started our journey. I like to trust my instinct about people. I like to be able to look them in the eye and realise that they’re not just giving me lip service — that this is what they’re passionate about. It’s not just a job for hire.
