The first Black Panther was a huge hit. What about its impact were you especially proud of?

It was a beautiful thing to see the outpouring of pride, of representation, of being seen. And to see audiences show up in a way that you never see at movies, dressed as kings and queens! There was such enthusiasm over that movie. It was like water in a desert.

What do you love most about playing Queen Ramonda?

Caring for people is at her core. And as T’Challa and Shuri’s mother, she is that mothering instinct, that glue that holds the family together. That strength, that grace, that shoulder to lean on. And in this film, she's been carrying not only for herself and her daughter, but for her people. Because with her husband gone, and then her son, she has to step into that position...
