Right now, we would normally have been heading to the big screen in droves to catch the new James Bond and MCU instalments – until the Coronavirus came and crashed the party. But Netflix is here to show they’ve got an action-packed blockbuster to look forward to in Extraction (formerly known as Dhaka) a new hard-hitting thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, produced by The Russo Brothers, and penned by Joe Russo himself. After last week’s poster debut, the first trailer has now arrived – and it looks pretty damn exciting.

Whew – it looks like director Sam Hargrave, who was stunt co-ordinator on Captain America: Civil War, Atomic Blonde, and the double-whammy of Infinity War and Endgame, really has some action chops. Did you catch that moment the car spins round and the camera enters it through the window? Fingers crossed we could be heading into The Raid-esque territory of inventive, frantic action photography. All that, and there seems to be a human story going on here too, with Hemsworth’s ludicrously-named mercenary Tyler Rake reconciling the death of his young son while trying to protect the kidnapped son of a drug lord.

This is the second film to arrive from the Russos’ AGBO production company, following last year’s Chadwick Boseman-starring 21 Bridges – and they’re teaming up with yet another Avenger for their next project, Cherry with Tom Holland. We’ll find out if Extraction lives up to its trailer when it hits the streaming service on 24 April – not long now.
