Given the success of Deadpool last year, it's perhaps not shocking that studios and producers would want to be in business with the character's co-creator, Rob Liefeld. Graham King and Akiva Goldsman have struck a deal to develop Liefeld's Extreme Universe comic series into a movie.
Liefeld, who created the Merc With A Mouth alongside writer Fabian Nicieza, will work with the duo on turning his sprawling series of comic books, boasting more than 100 varied characters, into what all involved will be keeping their fingers crossed spawns that all-important comic book adaptation result: a franchise. Extreme Universe features the likes of Cybrid, Bloodstrike and Nitro-Gen and is shot through with the same subversive humour and madness that permeates Deadpool's misadventures.
It's not the first project the writer has set up with Goldsman - the duo are also working on an adaption of his Avengelyne comic, which Goldsman intends to direct. And while Liefeld isn't directly involved in the Deadpool movies, the second outing for the character played on screen by Ryan Reynolds is aiming for a 2018 release.
