Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians was one of this year's big sensations, drawing repeat audiences and earning more than $230 million worldwide. Warner Bros. is naturally looking to capitalise, throwing a sequel based on the second book, China Rich Girlfriend into development back in August. According to the producers, the plan is now to shoot both that and the adaptation of the third book, Rich People Problems, back to back.

Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, talking to Deadline on the day of the Golden Globe nominations, say that the plan is to wait for director Jon M. Chu to work on the films after he finishes In The Heights, with shooting pencilled in for 2020. It's not exactly the rapid pace one might expect given the success of the original, but Jacobson and Simpson are hoping that having two films ready to deliver will make up for it.

So while we might not get anything more from the Asians world until 2021 at the earliest, hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
