As often happens on big films, even in the well-oiled Marvel machine, there is a change being made in the writers' room for Captain Marvel. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who penned the new Tomb Raider, is taking over scripting chores.
Captain Marvel, which has Brie Larson playing the titular hero, will offer an origin story for Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Subsequently, she gains powers such as flight, enhanced strength, damage resistance and the ability to absorb and re-channel energy. We learned recently at the San Diego Comic-Con that the film will be set in the 1990, will feature Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and will see her battling the cosmic threat known as the Skrulls.
Guardians Of The Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg LeFauve were reportedly at work on the script, but their schedules have become increasingly busy – LeFauve, for one, is co-directing Gigantic for Disney Animation.
So now Robertson-Dworet, who has worked on a variety of projects still bubbling away in development, will liaise with directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck on the Marvel movie, which is taking aim at an 8 March, 2019 release.
