Neither Blade Runner movie has truly moved the needle on box office returns, but the cult appeal and expansive world of the films has lead to plenty of interest in continuing the stories in other mediums, such as books and comics. Now there will also be an animated series premiering on US TV.
The show, called Blade Runner – Black Lotus has been commissioned from anime streaming outlet Crunchyroll as a 13-episode initial series inspired by last year's Blade Runner 2049.
While the exact plot is under wraps for now, the story will be set in 2032, a period between the two movies and featuring some familiar figures from the movie universe. Sola Digital Arts, which produced the anime prequel to the latest entry will handle actual animation chores, while Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama will direct all the episodes. It's not known yet when the show will actually premiere, but it should also be available via streaming over here.
