With Blade Runner 2049 almost upon us, the series of prequel shorts helping to fill in the timeline between the original (set in 2019) and the sequel have been premiering with impressive production values. The third and final look at the movie's future history uses anime to tell its tale. Check it out below.

Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, who worked on the likes of Cowboy Bebop and The Animatrix, this one is a longer short story that tracks the problems that erupt between humans and replicants. Following the problems with the Nexus 6 series, the Nexus 8 "skin jobs" were hunted down and lynched.

Naturally, this leads to an uprising from the replicants, who decide to strike back. There's some truly impressive animation and tie-ins to the Blade Runner universe, especially the music.

It's well worth a watch, and shouldn't spoil anything about the movie, which will finally be with us on 5 October.
