When Marvel boss Kevin Feige arrived on stage for the studio's big Comic-Con presentation, he emphasised that he'd primarily brought a look at two of its upcoming releases, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. You can read about the Ragnarok footage here, but the new glimpse at Panther was just as impressive, for different reasons.
We've already had one main trailer for Black Panther, which follows the warrior king T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) back to his home nation of Wakanda, where he must deal with becoming ruler and threats from within and without. Part of the footage expanded upon what we've seen in the trailer, but there was plenty more spectacle to be found, including the fact that Michael B. Jordan's ambitious Erik Killmonger has his own Panther-style suit.
The main scenes featured found T'Challa, warrior Okoye and spy Nakai (Lupita Nyong'o) infiltrating a casino to track and take down Andy Serkis' Ulysses Klaue, who is in the midst of trying to sell Vibranium. And the buyer? Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman, who we met in Captain America: Civil War). The sting goes badly, especially when Klaue breaks out a fancy new hand fitted with a sonic weapon. A car chase ensues, with the Panther and his team employing their own brand of weaponry (and one point T'Challa starts to take a car apart as he's clinging to it, and his suit forms around him automatically), and the action was intense.
Of course, that wasn't the end of the Marvel panel, as Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo arrived to announce that some footage from the massive character crossover movie would be shown.
While Infinity War recently wrapped, there was enough footage in decent enough shape (unlikely to go on line because it's early days) to showcase the sheer ambition and scope of the movie, which will see almost every MCU hero to date taking on Josh Brolin's unbelievably powerful Thanos. We watched the Guardians bump into Thor (literally) and various heroes having major problems. Tom Holland's Spider-Man, for example sees his Spider-sense activate, warning of the alien threat's arrival near Earth. And Chris Evans' Steve Rogers has a beard. A beard! Okay, so that's not the most important thing, but some will need to know that. Infinity War is shaping up to be absolutely ginormous, and it's still only part of the story.
Black Panther is due on 16 February 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War lands 27 April the same year.
