A star is born in this funny, frank comedy from writer-director-star Desiree Akhavan. She plays a hip Brooklyn chick who can’t bring herself to tell her strict Persian parents that she’s bisexual. She’s also fixated on her ex-girlfriend (Rebecca Henderson) and has an unfortunate tendency to put her foot in her mouth.
Not all of it works, but it does breeze along, thanks to the likable characters and dry wit of the Frances Ha variety. Akhavan has since been bagged to appear in the popular American TV series Girls with Lena Dunham, which gives you an idea of the vibe.
