Inspired by the Tom Cruise blockbusters rather than the TV series, M has players sneaking around in the dark and toying with a box of gadgets as they attempt to stop a virus from infecting computers across the globe.
The game does a fine job in capturing the spirit of the movies, blending stealthy episodes where players lurk in the shadows to avoid alerting guards, and adrenaline-fuelled kung fu fisticuffs. The spy gadgets will also be familiar to movie fans from dangling on wires to avoid a touch-sensitive floor, to a camera that can copy enemies faces and create disguises for entering restricted areas.
However, the game is shamelessly derivative. Espionage thriller Splinter Cell which was released over 12 months ago does everything M offers, and better. And as a Splinter Cell sequel is due for release in a couple of months, anyone wanting a sneaky spy adventure would be best saving their cash.
