Midnight Club II

If the high-octane racing of 2 Fast 2 Furious isn’t enough for you, but you don’t fancy haring down the High Street in your Ford Capri, you could do worse than check out Midnight Club II. From the people behind Grand Theft Auto, this plays like the driving elements of that game pushed up a gear.

It has you tearing around Paris, LA and Tokyo dodging traffic, racing competitors and running over pedestrians (well, if they will run all over the pavement like that…). The cities are beautifully rendered in seedy neon, and the learning curve is well judged. Progress far enough and you get better cars and motorbikes, which don’t greatly change the gameplay, but it’s nice to have a bit of variety when you’re mowing people down.
