With Sam Raimi currently at the helm of Spider-Man 2, his mooted Army Of Darkness follow-up wont be arriving any time soon. And if you think thats disappointing, dont get excited about the latest Evil Dead video game.
On the surface, A Fistful Of Boomstick does a fair job of capturing the gritty style and outrageous action of Raimis gory flicks and, with Bruce Campbell providing the wise-cracking voiceover, it feels like a genuine part of the Evil Dead series. Unfortunately, the game itself is devastatingly dull. Although its initially satisfying to dismember Deadites with a chainsaw, the action quickly becomes tedious and repetitive.
On a more positive note, A Fistful Of Boomstick comes bundled with the sublime Evil Dead 2 on DVD, and a bonus documentary about the game that features interviews with a rather decrepit-looking Bruce Campbell (now sporting a wispy moustache by far the most horrifying thing about this package).
