Liz Moody
Liz Moody is Associate Editor (Production) at Empire, having joined the team in 1999 – making her Empire’s longest-serving member of staff. Serving as chief sub as well as writer, she has written mainly on the films of Richard Linklater, but also Sofia Coppola and the arthouse, indie and foreign-language genres ‑ her favourite films being the Before Trilogy, Boyhood and Lost In Translation. Liz regularly writes Empire reviews, and is proud to have interviewed Ethan Hawke (among others) many, many times. She’s pleased to confirm he is every bit as erudite, kind and funny as you would wish. Liz’s interest in film began back in the late ’70s, with a trip to see Jodie Foster Disney film Candleshoe (it’s a comedy, but aged four, this might have passed her by) at the now long-closed Preston ABC. Later, in the ’80s, began a lifetime commitment to the oeuvre of Michael J. Fox, triggered not just by Back To The Future but also Teen Wolf ‑ what a one-two punch in the halcyon days of 1985. The mid ’80s also saw the arrival of the ‘multiplex’ in Britain, and the Odeon Fishergate had to make space for the UCI Preston Docks as the twin poles of Liz’s film obsession. University saw a move to the fresh, fierce, funny films of Quentin Tarantino, and then, after a four-year sojourn in the world of pop music with teen mag TV HITS, Liz joined Empire — and the rest, as they say, is history. Still wedded to seeing as many films as possible on the big screen, Liz also appreciates the joy of drawing the lounge curtains and getting out the blue cheese and red wine for the latest on Mubi/Prime Video/Apple+/Netflix/Disney+ et al.
