Chris Hewitt
Empire’s Executive Editor, Chris Hewitt is an award-winning (but mainly award-losing) film journalist who, when he’s not busy writing about himself in the third person or trying to figure out just what it is that an Executive Editor actually does, is the host and producer of the Empire Film Podcast.
I’ve — sorry, he’s — been with Empire since 2001, during which time he’s interviewed thousands (no, really, he’s counted) of the biggest names in the business, written dozens (again, he’s counted) of cover features, and had an array of astonishing adventures, all in the name of Empire. Too many to count, thankfully. He claims to have coined Jason Statham’s nickname, 'The Stath'. There is no way to verify this, so don’t even try.
As host of the Empire Podcast, and its Spoiler Specials off-shoot, Chris has established a reputation as one of the best interviewers around, conducting in-depth chats with the likes of Quentin Tarantino, the Russo brothers, Steven Spielberg, Jordan Peele, Edgar Wright, and many, many, many more. He’s also a world-leading expert on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is behind much of Empire’s coverage of the MCU across both magazine and podcast.
If you ask him what he’s proudest of in all of his time at Empire, he’ll tell you it’s the world-renowned series of spoiler special interviews with director Christopher McQuarrie, in which they dig into McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible films in extraordinary detail.
But, really, it’s The Stath thing.
