Eyebrows raised back in March when Max Landis' spec script Bright snagged not only director David Ayer but his Suicide Squad star Will Smith alongside Joel Edgerton. Fast forward to today and the project has another lead in the shape of Noomi Rapace.

Landis' script, which is said to blend End Of Watch-style police drama with a story that features orcs, fairies and other magical creatures sharing the world with humans, is still mostly under wraps, though there is talk of a magic wand discovered that draws attention from various groups and gangs.

And while it was speculated that a big studio would swoop in and nab the rights, the big winner turned out to be Netflix, which ponied up $3 million for the script and offered a $90 million budget to make the movie itself. Ayer has worked on the script since he came aboard, and is planning to shoot this autumn.

Rapace, who last appeared in Child 44, will be seen in sci-fi thriller Rupture, action pic Unlocked and What Happened To Monday?, none of which have confirmed UK release dates yet.
