What started out sounding like a mad idea thrown around by Chris Miller and Phil Lord is creeping ever closer to reality. Sony used its CinemaCon presentation to confirm a raft of sequels, including a certain film called MIB 23.
Yes, the much-mooted meetings of minds – well, mind – between Jonah Hill's Schmidt, Channing Tatum's Jenko of Jump Street and the Men In Black agents – is indeed moving forward. Developed by Lord and Miller with writer Rodney Rothman, it's still mostly under wraps, but we do know that The Muppets and Alice Through The Looking Glass' James Bobin is directing and that Tatum and Hill have tentatively agreed to star. On the MIB side, however, it appears that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones almost certainly won't return, with younger actors filling their suits as, presumably, new characters. It's a shame: we wanted to see how deep a furrow Tommy Lee could create in his forehead when faced with Jenko.
The studio seems to be nailing down a June shoot with the film looking to bother cinemas next year. Check out the initial title treatment – we don't know yet if this will be the final name (though it ties in nicely with 22 Jump Street's idea of spoofing sequels) – below.
