What do you think Vin Diesel's Xander Cage has been up to in the years since we saw him in 2002's extreme sports action thriller xXx? Sitting around dreaming he's a tree? Secretly battling witches? Driving fast cars around the world? Whatever it is, he's back for more wild stunts in xXx: Return Of Xander Cage.
While the "The" that was in the title appears to have gone AWOL, we're promised "guns, girls and global domination" in this first footage from the movie, though the list might also include "quick cuts, people leaping off or onto things and something about walking into a tornado." That last one does not sound safe, but then, whoever said Xander Cage wanted a safe life?
The story this timer sees occasional government operative Cage brought out of self-imposed exile to find and take on new warrior Xiang (Donnie Yen) and his group of skilled fighters who have stolen a seemingly unstoppable weapon that carries the somewhat unoriginal moniker Pandora's Box. What, no Spotify's Satchel to be hip and up to date with the kids?
Xander will need to recruit his own team to battle a deadly conspiracy that threatens the world, stuff, all that usual malarky. Expect the stunts to be fun and the cast to be diverse; the line-up this time includes Nina Dobrev, Rory McCann, Deepika Padukone, Tony Jaa and
Ruby Rose. Plus, of course Samuel L. Jackson back as Agent Augustus Gibbons. D.J. Caruso directs the madness and the film will leap from an exploding truck into our cinemas on January 20 next year.
