Shooting has been underway since April on the new Mission: Impossible, the sixth entry in the franchise and the second to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie. He's adding Angela Bassett to the cast as the director of the CIA.

Tom Cruise is back as usual playing Ethan Hunt, the globe-trotting secret agent who always finds himself in tricky situations, such as hanging off the side of planes. McQuarrie and Cruise have been hard at work on new ways for the latter to risk life and limb, but the story is under wraps for now.

The latest recruit joins fellow franchise newcomers Henry Cavill and Vanessa Kirby, with Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Alec Baldwin all returning. The movie will hit our screens on 27 July next year.

Bassett most recently worked on Black Panther (due 16 February), and once she finishes work on the new Mission, she'll head for the set of new drama series 911, produced by Ryan Murphy.
