It’s a good time to be Taika Waititi. With Hunt For The Wilderpeople currently splitting sides in cinemas across the globe (it’s New Zealand’s most successful homegrown hit of all time, fact fans) and Thor: Ragnarok on its way to completion, we now have some What We Do In The Shadows news. And surprisingly, it’s not about werewolf-centric sequel, We’re Wolves.

As we reported back in August, Waititi and long-time collaborator Jemaine Clement (who played vampires Viago and Vladislav in What We Do In The Shadows) had pitched a spin-off entitled Police Ten 7, which would focus on the original film’s easily-manipulable police officers, Mike and Karen. However, Clement was told “before we even handed it in that there’s no money for comedy [on New Zealand TV stations]”.

We now have word that the show is moving forward, albeit with a title change. Paranormal Event Response Unit will follow the aforementioned Mike and Karen as they try to keep Wellington safe from spooky beasties. Six 30-minute episodes will be hitting New Zealand channel, TVNZ 2, with no word yet on who will be airing it in other territories.

Will the main cast cameo? Will the werewolves stop swearing{ =nofollow}? Will Mike and Karen actually do any worthwhile work? Who knows. But after seeing how the Kiwi cops fared last time around, we couldn’t be more excited.
