Preacher first look

When writer/producer Seth Rogen offered the first look at Preacher last year, you may recall that among the initial images was the dark picture of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) and young Eugene Root, AKA Arseface (Ian Colletti), which you can see above. Now prepare to get a full look at the latter's visage, brought to life by some impressive make-up.

Eugene is a key character in the comic book and is a tricky, tragic person to bring into any medium. A lad who tried to commit suicide by shooting himself, he's ended up nevertheless with a more positive outlook on life.

The series itself, created by Rogen, regular writing partner Evan Goldberg and Breaking Bad veteran Sam Catlin, will twist and tweak Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's graphic novel, which follows what happens when a small-town Texas reverend with a dark past and a deep love of John Wayne films who becomes bonded with a creature known as Genesis, the offspring of an angel and demon. The blend at times makes him as powerful as God Himself, but also gives him real problems.

As Jesse, his ex-girlfriend (and assassin) Tulip (Ruth Negga) and their new friend Cassidy (a vampire, played by Joseph Gilgun) try to figure out why he has this power and why God appears to have forsaken his kingdom, they cross paths with saints, serial killers and many, many inbred weirdoes.

Preacher will arrive on US screens via AMC on May 23 and via AMC Global in the UK around the same time.
