Given his experience on comic book-based fodder including Watchmen and TV series Hard Target, Jackie Earle Haley is always a reliable call when you need a good actor. Seth Rogen and the Preacher team have realised that, and have hired him to play Odin Quincannon in their TV adaptation.
Preacher, as created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, revolves around troubled smalltown Texan man of God Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), who merges with the spawn of a demon and an angel named Genesis. After developing the power to force anyone to do what he says, he heads out with assassin ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) and chatty vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) on a journey to find the negligent deity and discover why he is abandoning mankind.
Quincannon, meanwhile, is described as a small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business. In the comics, he's member of the local KKK chapter and has a predilection for having sex with a mannequin made out of meat products. Talk about loving your work...
With Rogen, writing/producing Evan Goldberg and Breaking Bad veteran Sam Catlin behind the scenes, Preacher has made it through the pilot process and is now shooting the first season, which should be on screens this summer. Haley is part of the cast for London Has Fallen, which descends on our cinemas on March 3.
