This weekend in America brings the annual celebration of eating, watching TV and two teams trying to steal a hand-egg from each other on a big field, otherwise known as the Super Bowl. And with that comes ads; very pricey ads taken out by big companies. The studios' mini-trailers have begun to arrive and first off the bench is the new spot for Ghost In The Shell.
Looking to drum up a little attention for a movie that has largely been swimming against a tide of early negativity for its adaptation of the manga series, the new spot leans into the idea that Scarlett Johansson's cyborg enforcer The Major might not be as willing a warrior as she suspects.
She's the head of the cyber-terrorism unit Section 9, which hunts down the enemies of Hanka Robotics. Their prime target is a hacker known as The Laughing Man, who is dedicated to wiping out all of the company's tech.
Pilou Asbæk is Batou, the second best fighter in the section and her trusted lieutenant, with Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt and Kaori Momoi also appearing. Rupert Sanders is directing from a script by Jamie Moss and Jonathan Herman, itself adapted from Masamune Shirow's manga.
Ghost In The Shell will be out on 31 March.
