Director Roger Michell already has Rachel Weisz in one of the main roles for his romantic thriller remake based partly on 1952's My Cousin Rachel. Sam Claflin recently signed on and now here comes Holliday Grainger, who is in negotiations to join them.
The new film, which Michell will also adapt, takes its story from Daphne du Maurier’s novel about Philip, an orphan who is used to living a happy life with his cousin and guardian, Ambrose. But when Ambrose is off on one of his health-related holidays, he reports back that he has fallen for Rachel, a distant relation, the tone of his letters starts to change and Philip decides to go and investigate. Yet he underestimates the power the beautiful Rachel will have over him.
Weisz will be the seductive title character, with Claflin as Philip, but there's no indication yet of who Grainger will play. She'll next be seen in Coast Guard drama The Finest Hours (which is out this week) and has worked on Tulip Fever, which has yet to nail down a firm release date.
