At a time when the law seems to be more of a flexible notion than ever, it's interesting to look back at cases from the past. And, if they agree to the lead roles, that's what Russell Crowe and David Oyelowo will be doing in Arc Of Justice.
Jose Padilha is on to direct the legal drama, which has a script by Max Borenstein and Rodney Barnes based on Kevin Boyle's book Arc Of Justice: A Saga Of Race, Civil Rights, And Murder In The Jazz Age. It'll follow what happened when doctor Ossian Sweet (Oyelowo) is put on trial for murder after a racial incident in 1925. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, at an early stage of its development, put up the money for his defence, which was led by famed lawyer Clarence Darrow (the role Crowe is eyeing).
The Mark Gordon Company is backing the film, which should shoot this year. Crowe will be back on our screens next month as Dr. Henry Jekyll in The Mummy, out on 9 June. Oyelowo is part of the cast for a currently titled new extension to the Cloverfield movie universe set on a space station, which hits the UK on 1 December.
