"Bad boys, bad boys, wotcha gonna do... wotcha gonna do when they come for you..." If that song pops into your head when you hear the title COPS, then chances are you know the famous reality police series that has been running on US TV (and occasionally screened in the UK) since 1989. Now someone wants to make a movie based on the show, and Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer is aboard to direct.

It's still in the nascent stage of developing, but apparently the plan is not to go for a direct big-screen version of the show, which specialises in showing perps being arrested, houses being raided and drunk weirdoes being carted away in cuffs, but instead to turn the idea into a buddy comedy along the lines of Lethal Weapon.

Which has us rather confused... Why purchase the rights to the name of a show but then create a movie that will likely have nothing much to do with it? Still, writer Cameron Fay is the man currently charged with channelling the series' particular vibe for the show, which we suppose could power something along the lines of End Of Watch, only with less grit and more laughs?
