You might recall that we brought you an exclusive look at the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods last year. Now some new images of the characters have arrived online, courtesy of USA Today.
At the top of the page, you can see Ian McShane's charming, devious Mr. Wednesday meeting with Zorya Vechernyaya, played by Cloris Leachman, a close relative of the Slavic god of darkness and apparently a fan of a little tipple.
Then we have Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, the other main character on the show, along with wife Laura (Emily Browning). Despite the mystery of Laura's death being a key storyline, we're promised plenty of material for her, including some new narrative created for the show by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green alongside Shadow's indoctrination into this odd world. "Shadow starts the series as someone comfortably American and feeling like he’s already a citizen of the world," but he's "an immigrant into the new culture of the world of gods and magic," Green tells the paper.
Other members of the cast include Crispin Glover, playing Mr. World, one of the New Gods that Mr. Wednesday and his elder pantheon have a real problem with. It's a clash of values: the Old Gods are used to people "who show their faith by bending knee, giving willing sacrifice and announcing that devotion clearly and in song," Green explains, "the New Gods all evolved in times where worship is a commodity to be bought, sold, traded, pilfered, clicked and to be gotten from people, with or without their notice."
With the cast also including Kristin Chenoweth, Gillian Anderson, Peter Stormare and Orlando Jones, American Gods kicks off in the States on Starz on 30 April and will be available in the UK on Amazon Prime Video. For more on the show, see USA Today's site.
