With shooting long under way, the American Gods team adapting Neil Gaiman's novel – which includes Bryan Fuller and Michael Green – are surprisingly not finished announcing cast members. Fuller has orchestrated a reunion with one of his Hannibal actors, as Gillian Anderson is on to play Media.
The series based Gaiman's book (which has the writer himself as an executive producer), chronicles the struggle between the gods of old (mythological legends from around the world) and new (reflecting modern society's love for money, technology and celebrity, among other things). The story finds Shadow (Ricky Whittle) trying to come to grips with his suddenly changing life and his connection with the Norse god Odin.
Media, serving as the mouthpiece of the new faction, lives off the attention and affection people have for their screens. Able to take the form of various celebrities, she's an endlessly upbeat presence, seeming always in control and a master spin doctor.
Anderson joins a cast that already includes Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Peter Stormare, Pablo Schreiber, Cloris Leachman, Yetide Badaki and Bruce Langley. Filming into Toronto and elsewhere, American Gods should be on our screens next year.
