So far, mostly what we know about Cars 3 comes from the trailer and plot descriptions that see Owen Wilson's Lightning McQueen finding himself outclassed on the track by younger new rivals. Today we learn about three other characters new to the series, voiced by Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington and Orange Is The New Black's Lea DeLaria.
With Lightning needing a little help to get his motoring mojo back, he'll have to turn to friends old and new. But the latest cast members may not quite be on his side. Washington will be Natalie Certain, an analyst and number-cruncher who prides herself on evaluating racers through statistics, but doesn't always account for the influence of determination. Then Fillion (a Pixar voice veteran who also worked on Monsters University) is Sterling, a driven and dapper businessman... well, businesscar... who runs an elite training facility but has no time for losers. Finally, DeLaria is Miss Fritter, a school bus with a no-nonsense attitude.
The cast already includes Christela Alonzo as unconventional trainer Cruz Ramirez, Armie Hammer as fast new racer Jackson Storm and real-life racer Lewis Hamilton as a navigation system called, in a less-than-inspired burst of creativity, Hamilton. Will he help Lightning stop throwing away his shot?
Cars alumni back for this one include Larry The Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt and Tony Shalhoub, and Cars 3 arrives in the UK on 14 July.
