See Michael Keaton as the man who launched McDonald’s in The Founder

The Founder

Michael Keaton has been choosing some interesting work of late, and seeing real results including an Oscar for Birdman and acclaim for his role in Spotlight, which itself took the Academy Award this year. He's followed that with The Founder, another based-on-truth tale, of canny salesman Ray Kroc, who saw an opportunity and launched one of the world's biggest brands.

If the picture above wasn't enough of a clue, The Founder is about the birth of McDonald's, and sees Kroc as the Illinois businessman who saw something in the small restaurant owned and operated by brothers Richard "Dick" McDonald (Nick Offerman) and Maurice "Mac McDonald" (John Carroll Lynch) in the 1950s. He subtly maneuvered himself into a position to take over the company (think There Will Be Blood, but with more hamburger grease), buying up the burgeoning chain for $2.7 million in 1961 and turning into the fast food behemoth we know today.

With a script by Robert D. Siegel and John Lee Hancock in the director's chair, The Founder also stars Laura Dern, Patrick Wilson and Linda Cardellini. It'll be out in the US this August but has yet to lock in a UK date.
